1. It's 12+ years old. Most boilers are designed for a 10–15 year lifespan. Older units lose efficiency every year you keep them.
2. Energy bills are creeping up. If your usage is the same but bills are climbing, your boiler is the likely culprit.
3. Banging, gurgling or kettling noises. These point to limescale, sludge or a failing pump — fixable, but a sign the unit is on borrowed time.
4. You're calling out an engineer every winter. Repeated repairs add up fast. A new install usually pays for itself in 3–5 years through reliability alone.
