Alpha E1: ignition lockout on an Alpha combi boiler
E1 on an Alpha boiler follows the same underlying pattern as other manufacturers' ignition faults: the burner failed to establish or hold a flame within its allowed attempts, and the appliance has stopped rather than keep trying blind.
How we read an Alpha E1 lockout on site
Gas supply and working pressure are checked first because they are quick to measure and rule out an entire category of causes in minutes. Electrode wear, a degraded spark lead and a condensate trap partially blocked with combustion residue are the next most common findings. PCB-level faults exist but are the least frequent cause and are only considered once the simpler items are confirmed sound.
