Boiler flow temperature setup for lower running costs
Most condensing boilers leave the factory at a flow temperature far higher than a typical UK home needs. Above roughly 55°C return temperature the boiler stops condensing and loses the efficiency you paid for.
Why the number matters
A condensing heat exchanger recovers latent heat by cooling flue gases below their dew point. That only happens when return water is cool enough. Drop the heating flow temperature — hot water stays unaffected on a combi — and the same boiler quietly returns better fuel figures. In poorly insulated stone properties the workable minimum is higher, so we set it against the actual house rather than a blanket figure.

- Does this affect hot water?
- No. Combi hot-water temperature is a separate setting and stays where it is.
