A gas rate check measures how much gas a boiler actually consumes while running and compares it against the manufacturer's rated input for that model.
What we check first with the gas rate check
The engineer times the gas meter's dial movement while the boiler runs at full output, uses that timing together with the meter's calorific value data to calculate an actual consumption figure, then compares it to the appliance data plate. A rate significantly below specification suggests restricted gas flow or an undersized supply; a rate above specification can mean an incorrectly adjusted valve, and either affects safe, efficient operation.
