In a gravity hot water system, the cylinder is heated by natural convection through wide-bore pipework while the radiator circuit is separately pumped, a common arrangement in properties from before the 1980s. A fully pumped system uses a pump to circulate both the hot water and heating circuits, which is faster to heat and standard in modern installations.
