Vaillant F22: what the fault display actually shows you

The ecoTEC display pairs F22 with a live pressure figure, and that number is the first clue worth noting before anyone calls an engineer. Write it down rather than clearing the screen straight away.

Understanding reading an F22 display before you spend money

A figure near zero points to an actual water shortage; a figure that looks normal but the fault persists points to the sensor or pump instead. Note whether the display flickers between F22 and a normal standby state, because that intermittency usually means a loose sensor connector rather than a hardware failure. Photograph the screen before resetting so the reported figure isn't lost.

Reading an F22 display — the facts that change the job

  • Photograph the display reading before you press reset
  • A near-zero figure usually means a genuine water shortage
  • A normal-looking figure with F22 still showing suggests wiring
  • Flickering between fault and standby points at a loose connector
  • Send the photo with your enquiry so the fault history is on file

Questions we get asked

Does the pressure figure on screen match the mechanical gauge?
It should be close. A large mismatch between the digital reading and the analogue gauge is itself a useful diagnostic clue.
Is it worth resetting more than twice to see what the display does?
No — two attempts is the limit regardless of what the screen shows.

Put simply: The display tells its own story before you touch anything. Note the figure, then get it checked rather than clearing it repeatedly.
