Installation day — what actually happens
Knowing the shape of the day makes it far less disruptive. Here's how a straightforward combi replacement usually runs, and where the variations come in.
The typical sequence
Arrival and protection down first, then isolation and drain-down. The old appliance comes off the wall, pipework is adapted, and the new boiler is hung and connected. Flue and condensate follow, then the system is cleansed and refilled with inhibitor. Commissioning, gas rate and combustion checks come last, followed by handover. Heating is usually back on by late afternoon.
What we need from you
- Access to the boiler area cleared, and to the loft if the flue routes there
- Somewhere to park within reasonable carrying distance
- Someone present for handover at the end of the day
- Pets kept clear of open doors while equipment moves in and out

- Will I be without heating overnight?
- On a same-day swap, no. Multi-day conversions are planned so hot water is restored as early as possible.
- How much mess is there?
- Some dust from wall fixings, and drain-down water is contained. We sheet up and clear away before leaving.
- What paperwork do I get?
- Benchmark record, Building Control notification, guarantee registration confirmation and the commissioning figures.
